Elizabeth Glenday: OFC, PMI, YES, Group Fitness Manager

Liz’s passion for fitness began with regular participation in classes, but the teacher in her soon brought her to the front of the class. Proud to be among the first successful Ontario Fitness Council certified instructors in 1990, Elizabeth now runs fitness leadership courses as an OFC trainer and assessor. Liz is thrilled to bring her experience as a fitness leader, former club owner and trainer to her role as Group Fitness Manager here at Access Fitness. “See you in class!”

Therese LaVieille-Stanley: FIS

I have been involved in the fitness industry for over 20 years - wow! I began my career as an instructor at Brock University, while working towards a physical education degree. From there I taught group fitness classes at a Superfitness (remember those?), Orangeville Squash & Fitness, Main Fitness and managed a private fitness studio for a couple of years. I am a primary Phys. Ed. teacher by day and I try to encourage my students to take fitness and nutrition seriously through education and role modeling. Health affects absolutely every aspect of your life! I have three wonderful children and an active husband. Movement is my passion and a part of my everyday life. Movement is life!

Shirl Turnbull: OFC

I started instructing classes later in life. I experienced major back problems and discovered that regular exercise is the best way to strengthen my back and avoid pain. I began teaching lunchtime step classes as a volunteer at my workplace, but the best thing I ever did was walking into The Aerobics Place in 1998. The owners taught me so much; I gained OFC certification, learned how to teach a variety of classes and most of all improved my self esteem! I can now teach almost any kind of class, thanks to my teachers. My favourite classes to teach are step or Hi-Lo. I always look forward to seeing new (and of course familiar) faces in class!

Ruth Laing: OFC, FIS

Hi my name is Ruth. I've been a Fitness Instructor since leg warmers were popular! I have a physical education background and have worked in the corporate fitness industry managing a variety of fitness and wellness programs. I've taught Step, Sculpt, Spin, Slide, Hi/Lo, Ball, Line Dancing, Aqua Fit and Yoga. Currently I enjoy leading fitness classes, working for the OFC as a certification assessor, teaching full-time, and providing chauffer services to my three daughters.

Ross Hughes: Spin Instructor

When I was a child, all I ever wanted to do was to become a professional BMX’er… well until I joined a band and got into music… then I wanted to be a Rock Star! Well neither happened so now I do SPIN! Spin allows me to ride a bike and listen to great music. I get to be a Rock Star riding a bike for an hour – it’s the best part of my week! Join my SPIN class and you will see what I mean.

Lynette Power: Spin Instructor

Do you find 5 minutes on the treadmill feels like 5 hours? Are you bored with your cardio routine? Hi there, I'm Lynette Power! I've been around the gym scene for years and although I've` always enjoyed doing weights, I found the time spent on cardio machines went by so slowly. One day I decided to try a Spin class and I was hooked. I took my certification through Reebok Studio Cycling and have been instructing classes for the past 9 years. The great thing about Spin Classes is that they are for every fitness level because you control the resistance on your bike. So if you are looking for something different to try or want to challenge yourself in a different way, I would love to have you come try a class.

Fortunata McConkey: OFC, YES, RYT

Exercise has always been a very important part of my life. My first encounter with an exercise class outside of Phys. Ed. class was when by chance I came across a T.V. show in the early 80's called Lillian's Yoga. (Yes, I know I'm dating myself!) Back then nobody really knew what yoga was all about or had any idea of its benefits. From that day forward I was hooked. As a runner, tennis player, and in general an exercise enthusiast, yoga has helped me not only develop flexibility, muscle strength, breath awareness and control, but to also find a balance in everything I do both physically and mentally. Whether teaching group fitness or yoga class my aim is to provide all students at all levels with a safe, non-competitive environment to enhance their health and well-being.

Donna Anderson: OFC

Hi, my name is Donna. I’ve been a certified group fitness instructor with the Ontario Fitness Council since July 2003 and absolutely love doing the classes. I had been a participant of group fitness for about four years when my soon-to-be husband suggested that I become certified and teach classes, since he could clearly see it was something I enjoyed doing so much. So that’s exactly what I did. I love sharing my passion for fitness and getting to know all the members I see regularly. Right now, I am on maternity leave, but I’ll be back in action soon!

Ann Bettonvil: PMI, OFC

Ann is happy to be one of the newer members of the Group Fitness team. Ann comes from an extensive background in dance – in fact, 25 years of dance - and has been operating her own studio for the past 15 years in Brampton. “It was a very natural move for me from dance into Pilates and Yoga.” She has been studying both for close to five years from a variety of teachers. “It's the inner muscular strength that I love about both Pilates and Yoga. It spills over into every other aspect of your life whether you are a die hard at the gym or a stay at home mom. Thanks to everyone who attends my classes, for as much as I teach you, you teach me!”

Allison Finch: OFC

Allison is certified through the Ontario Fitness Council (2005) and holds her level one certification in Resist-A-Ball. Allison is well versed in several areas of group fitness and continues her pursuit of fitness education. A graduate of Recreation and Leisure Studies from Brock University, she also has her Post Graduate Diploma in Recreation Therapy from Georgian College. Her interest in personal health and growth has carried with her into her professional life. Group fitness has been her part time passion that has allowed her to maintain a healthy balance between work and play!
